The 150 year reunion that was held last weekend was a great success for the Avoca Football Netball Club.
There was a large number of former Avoca Bulldogs that attended the event and all had a great time back at the Kennel.
Our only surviving member of the 1953 Premiership team, Noel Jess, was in attendance and the son (Colin Cullen) of the 1953 Best & Fairest winner, Bert Cullen was also in attendance. Noel Jess was Runner Up to Bert Cullen in the award. Noel signed his name on the 1953 Premiership Football as he was presented to the crowd at half time. We thank the Jess Family for bringing Noel along to the event.
Noel’s som Jim Jess, was also in attendance and spoke at the night event mainly regarding the 1993 Premiership in which Jim was the coach. Jim also spoke highly of the current playing group and also made reference to Terry Long who played a key role in Jim’s development whilst at Avoca in the early to mid 70’s.
Simone Field was Captain of the 1993 A Grade netball premiership and regailed the crowd with a song from the old days.
Current Netball Co-ordinator Alana Burge also spoke and made an announcement regarding our club legend Stacey Blair, who will play her 500th game of netball for the Avoca Bulldogs on Satuday 12th August, when we play Harcourt at the Avoca Public Park.
93 Premiership footballer, Ian Fraser, also donated a item from 1993 which was well recieved.
It was amazing to see everyone back at Avoca for the event and we look forward to seeing you all again the future.
